Managing Work Stress Part 7: The Path Back Out of Stress

Victoria Scott here to talk about managing work stress. Today we're talking about the path back out of stress.

After we're done oscillating between level 1 guilt, withdrawal, avoidance and level 2 anger, frustration, and fight, and we're ready to release that stressor, we ride the energy levels back up to our usual stop.

We find a way to rationalize the circumstance, forgive others for their issues, and take responsibility for our own thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Energy Level 3 – Tolerator: responsibility, forgiveness, cooperation, rationalization

That's level 3 and if that's our usual energy we stop right here.

If our usual energy is level 4, we go on to find a way to help out to fix to make things better for everyone.

Energy Level 4 – Fixer: concern, teamwork, service, help, compassion

If that's our usual energy we stop here.

If our usual energy is level 5, we move beyond judging the situation and we just accept what is. We're able to see opportunity and potential in the circumstance and in everyone around us.

Energy Level 5 – Leader: peace, acceptance, opportunity, potential, learning, collaboration

We can find a way to cooperate with others and leverage their strengths to arrive at an even better outcome, and if that's our usual energy we stop here.

We may even move into level six and use our creativity and intuition to find new innovations.

Energy Level 6 – Innovator: intuition, creativity

You can see the power and potential in each energy level and how it increases as you move up. Level 3 helps us move on, but we may be tolerating circumstances that aren't acceptable for us or allowing conflict to go unresolved. At level 4 we're focused on fixing the situation and making it okay for everyone. At level 5, we've moved beyond the concept that anything is wrong or broken and instead accept the situation and are able to see all the potential in it.

The goal isn't to move to level 5 or higher. The goal is to understand what our usual energy level is and how we can find our path back there.

Most of my clients thrive at level 4 and level 4 is a great energy. There's no need to try to keep moving up the energy levels unless there's an opportunity to engage an energy level that would serve us better in certain situations. It's also important to note that sometimes the lower energy levels can serve us better.

With practice and the help of an Energy Leadership Index (ELI) assessment, my clients can even learn to pick and choose the energies that serve them best in each situation.

If you feel like your energy isn't serving you to your fullest potential, reach out to me to find out more about the ELI assessment.

I'm curious, what helps you move out of stress?
